playfulness and expression

I’m an artist and self-taught painter, currently based in Weinsberg, Germany. I relocated to Germany from America in 2023 with my family. For more than a decade I worked as a photographer, and my work would often be described as painterly. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I decided to move away from photography and into something more tactile and messy, like painting. After experimenting with all sorts of mediums, I found oil pastel captured the playfulness and expression I wanted to convey.

When I paint, I set a timer and turn off my brain and let myself fall into a flow/meditative state. This started mostly out of the necessity of navigating how to make time for an art practice while also becoming a mother for the first time. Nap time became my studio time. Most of what I paint are still lives, room portraits, and flowers. I love painting these types of spaces because I’m interested in the way we create little corners and spots in our home that give us solace, ease and comfort. My work can be described as colorful, expressive, joyful, playful and textural. I work primarily in oil pastel, watercolor and charcoal.
